How to check printer ip address is something that you can use as many times as needed. It is easy to do and will make your life a lot easier if you are trying to troubleshoot an issue with a printer or laptop.

If you have an older computer, the good news is that the command line method doesn't require any special software either. This post teaches you how to check printer ip address in both command line and graphical methods on computers from years ago.

Connect your computer to the network. You can do this through Ethernet, wireless or Bluetooth. The printer must be on the same network as your machine and you must know the printer ip address.

If you are using an older version of Windows, go to the Start menu, choose Run and type in "CMD". This will bring up a DOS prompt window on your desktop.

The next step is to enter a command in order to find out what IP address your computer has been assigned. Type "ipconfig" into that window and HIT ENTER.

A list will appear with some information about IP addresses that are associated with this machine. Scroll down until you find an item labeled "IP Address". This is the address that corresponds with your IP address. This is the IP address you will use to connect to the printer.

After finding out this information you can use another command called "route" to get an access list of all the other computers and devices on your network. If you are not sure if this is possible, check with your IT team for more details about what can be done in order for a computer to access a printer on a network.

To do this, type "route print". The route will ask you what device you want to ping; it may say "no such device", try again until it says "print". Type in the printer ip address (it should look like 192.168.1.16). If the printer is on your network, it will respond and tell you that the ping is successful. At this point if you have the correct laptop, you can connect to the printer by typing in "RUN /INTERNET" and then providing the printer IP.

If you are still getting an error message, then there are a few reasons why something may be wrong...NOTE: They may not be in order of importance!

Your computer or printer may not be on your network. You may need to set up a new device on your network that is connected to the same router as your machine. (i.e. wireless printer, Ethernet printer or laptop) Most printers have a WPS button on them. You can try pressing this button and then enter the numeric code that is revealed onto the screen of your laptop. If you are using an Apple computer, you will need to turn on "Airport" and connect to your network with a cord if you want to print directly from your machine.

If you are running your computer through a proxy server, it may not work that way. Find out if there is another authentication method that can be used as opposed to using a proxy server or VPN connection.

1) Search your router configuration. Find the IP address for your printer and make sure that it is currently on the list of devices connected to your network.

2) Check any printers that are on and functioning by going into its "Network Configuration" page, which will also show you the printer IP address.
